NPS
CS Design Software is home to the National Plant Specification (NPS) delivered via the Cloud at http://www.csdhub.com/national-plant-specification

The NPS helps specifiers, suppliers and contractors by taking the guesswork out of plant selection and procurement and forms the framework for the Flora Product Data Template (PDT) developed by the Landscape Institute for compliance with BIM Level 2.
Associated organisations

The NPS provides a comprehensive and accurate ‘bible’ for plant selection and ensures an effective method of producing rigorously specified plant schedules.

Why use the NPS when specifying plants?
  • The NPS covers all the most commonly specified plant groups and defines their criteria
  • The NPS is free to view at www.CSDhub.com
  • Additional functionality and a larger planting library is provided with CS Flora, CS Helios and the web integrated CS Artisan project information system.
  • Specifiers using NPS can be sure that the plants are supplied to their exact specification and different nurseries are able to provide like-for-like quotations.
  • As the industry standard, the NPS is supported and promoted by major amenity growers and nurseries.

What is in the NPS?
  • Description of Terms:  Detailed guidance on how to accurately specify planting material with clearly illustrated definitions and descriptions of the terminology.
  • Summary Information:  Tabular view of typical specification information by planting group.
  • General Information:  Supplementary information and guidance including  handling, establishment, origin, provenance and rootballed trees.
  • Approved Lists of Plants:  Industry-approved plant species and varieties with associated specifications that are generally available in the UK/Europe.

NPS training is available, direct from the grower, and is ideal for:
  • Landscape Architects and Garden Designers
  • Grounds Maintenance and Parks Teams
  • Arboricultural and Horticultural Teams
  • Greenkeepers and Estate Teams

Candidates gain:
  • NVQ Level 2/QCF 1 Unit in An Understanding of the National Plant Specification
  • Confidence when specifying, ordering, handling or maintaining plants
  • Knowledge of the sizes and forms of trees and shrubs available from UK nurseries
  • An insight into nursery stock production at one of the UK’s leading amenity growers, Coles Nurseries

CS Artisan
The CSD flagship landscape product... incorporating CS Helios & CS Flora.

CS Artisan is a web integrated landscape design solution that has been developed and supported by CS Design Software (CSD) since the early 1990s. CS Artisan has been used on major landscape schemes throughout the UK and internationally and has established its reputation

CS Artisan offers the ability to extract intelligent data (schedules, reports) across multiple drawings by project. The extensive Palette Builder is accessible directly by a web browser where users can maintain planting and non-planting palettes and create/output reports to PDF or spreadsheet. CS Artisan palettes are used to label CAD drawings and to generate intelligent reports such as schedules.

CS Artisan currently comes as a plugin to AutoCAD or with an embedded CAD engine.

CS Artisan includes the following...

  • Planting library: 9,500 plant species/varieties with fully searchable characteristics and photographs (expandable Artisan Community Resource)
  • Softworks, Hardworks, Groundworks, Site furniture and Sport & Play libraries
  • Online Palette Builder: accessible independently of CAD or within CS Artisan
  • Web licensing: no requirement for hardware locks; flexible licensing using de-authorise/authorise utility
  • Hatches: AutoCAD and CS Artisan hatches
  • Draw/Boundary utility: Featuring CS Artisan complex linetypes
  • Graphical symbols & design details
  • Proxy servers: Fully supported to ensure connection to CS Artisan server
  • Legacy drawing and palettes support (from earlier CS Artisan versions)
  • Labels: MultiLeader technology for label style setting; auto-justification and AutoUpdate as associated objects are edited
  • Reports (InDWG): Default report templates; AutoUpdate as associated object is edited
  • Web Reports: Characteristic information + photos; Project + MultiDWG; PDF and spreadsheet output
  • Web Project RepositorySee below...

BIM for landscape
CSD is working closely with the Landscape Institute in defining a new BIM data structure for landscape and this will be the focus of the on-going development of the current web-integrated CS Artisan data system over the next few years.

CS Project... Cloud-based collaborative project repository (new March 2015)
CSD has introduced its own Landscape Project Information Web Repository that structures project information dynamically from synchronised CAD drawings and can be output to various standard/open-source file formats.

The CSD flagship product, CS Artisan enables drawing information to be synced directly with the Cloud-based Project Repository to automatically populate structured project information dynamically across multiple drawings.  In CS Helios, information is assigned manually from user defined palettes and users can assign object/option (plants/specifications) to Spaces and Zones as required.

Users are able to create quick links to projects and these are displayed at the CS Web App Home page.

Users define a project (and image if required) aswell as a position to be displayed on the CSD Home page.

CS Artisan Users can associate synchronized information using the Artisan Project Settings wizard that enables users to...
  • select the required project path
  • define project information hierarchy (Spaces and Zones).

Project Summary and Schedule information can be output in standard/open file format.
